105 Ways to Give a Book

Poetry Friday: "The Fox"

Honestly, this is a stretch even for me in the song-as-poetry series, but it's so freakin' awesome that I can't keep it to myself. This song is a techno cross of "Gangnam Style" and a Wiggles video with a huge helping of psychotropic drugs. And while I still can't decide if its sincere or satire, I know it's absolutely brilliant. Because, yeah... what does the fox say? So from the middle of the song, "The Fox" by Ylvis:
The secret of the fox
ancient mystery
somewhere deep in the woods
I know you're hiding.
What is your sound?
Will we ever know
Will always be a mystery
What do you say?

You should look at other Ylvis videos on YouTube, and I think you'll get whether it's satire or not :-) (Other videos are not so child friendly, by the way! Sex and language. Just so you know. But watch Stonehenge by them and I think you'll answer your question).

Greg says "woo oo oo woo oo"

Hi there Pam, this made me smile today. Thank you for sharing the video clip and "The Fox's" perspective.

Glad I could share the smile. ;)

Greg, I did watch Stonehenge. So here's the thing, in that song the performer is playing for laughs with overacting and lyrics that are off the theme. (I drive a Civic.) It's funny. But this Fox song is so perfect because they play it so sincere, like it's a real pop song and a normal subject for a pop song. Plus it's catchy and great to watch. I know I'm overanalyzing, but it's interesting to think what makes this song so, well, interesting! What does the fox say?

Agreed on the differences between the song stylings, Pam, but my point was simply that the intent of the song/video becomes clear: they are playing for laughs, but more subtly in The Fox. Regardless, it makes me laugh, so it's all good!
