I've mostly given up on the news during the Bush presidency because it drives me to gnash my teeth and tear out my hair, but The Onion's always such a breath of fresh air. I always feel like, "THANK GOD I'm not the only one who notices this." I feel the same way watching The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. I'm also newly addicted to The Bugle podcast (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/us_elections/the_bugle/), which periodically makes me laugh so hard I have to pull over when I'm listening to it in my car.
One of the bestselling preschool books of recent times was Walter the Farting Dog. At the same time, the American Library Association named as one of its best books Michael Rosen’s Sad Book, a book in which Mr. Rosen talks about his despair over the death of his son. I believe that, for most of us, what we want lies somewhere between a flatulent canine and overwhelming grief.

Blurgh.
That was a comment on the presidency, not on the Onion piece.
