105 Ways to Give a Book

Fifth Annual 48 Hour Book Challenge: Finish Line

48 Hour Book ChallengeYou made it! On this Finish Line post, leave the direct link to your final summary page, which should include: the amount of time spent on the challenge, books read, amount collected for charity, and which charity it will benefit.

I decided to donate one dollar to my designated Donors Choose school for everyone who finishes the challenge, which means to me that you signed in as a participant, read/blogged some books, and signed in at the Finish Line. So perhaps that little extra incentive can get folks to record their time and complete the 48HBC all official-like. Given different starting times over the weekend and time zones, the end is set at Monday, June 7th, at 7:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time. All final summary posts should be up by then. That said, sometimes there are folks who need some nudging, so I won’t announce any winners until after noon on Monday, June 7th.

I decided not to have a separate kid sign-in, but if you have a child who put in challenge hours this weekend, let me know in the comments because I will have some prizes to send out.

Thanks again to everyone who participated and supported and promoted the 48 Hour Book Challenge! Read on!

My second link is to my finish line post. I was too eager to enter my link and put the wrong link on the first entry.

Thanks again for the fun challenge!

I gave in to sleep and ended early. But this is the highlight of my reading year. I think I played the game better this year (counting the listening of audiobooks while driving, etc) but didn't pick the books that I would choose over sleep. That is the key for me for next year!

A little "late" in posting my finish-line post, as I finished at 7:30 this morning, but yes, I have completed it.
Thanks again, for hosting this, Mother Reader.

whew! What a good time! We didn't do a great job of documenting my six year old's hours... Somewhere between 5-10. My husband might have a better idea, though.

Thanks for a terrific event! My 11-year-old daughter and I both had a great time reading this weekend.

Done and (not) dusted! It was brilliant as usual, and I already have plans for better challenge-meeting for next year. Thanks as always for organizing this!

Ok so I've commented on each blog thru 33...if I missed you, it was NOT intentional..I promise {I call it lack of sleep}...if you let me know, tho...I'll defintiely stop by and drop you a comment.

Also wanted to say that I finally posted about my girls reading times this 48 hour period.
My 12 year old read: 10 hours and 45 minutes
My 9 year old read: 5 minutes shy of 13 hours

If anyone's interested, you can see my post here: http://amomentwithmystee.blogspot.com/2010/06/48-hour-reading-challenge-my-girls.html

They're even reading right now :)

Thanks! What a fun way to spend 48 hours. Do you host a 48 hour cleaning challenge? I could use some motivation in that area. :)

Pam, thank you for a fabulous challenge! Seriously, I look forward to this event every year - I love the camaraderie it builds in the KidLitosphere (and I also love an excuse to ignore the dirty dishes, skip events I don't want to attend, and READ!). Thank you, thank you!

I don't know how this happened, but if you can delete my name from Mr. Linky when I accidently signed up again for the starters line instead of finish line? Sorry about that!

Anyway I only clocked in 12+ hours or so for this one. However, thank you so much for putting this together. It's always a fav challenge of mine! My charity is also for Donors Choose.

Phew. Time to not read. Good thing I've got two Glees and a So You Think You Can Dance. I need some live entertainment!

Thanks--This was an awesome way to make a drool-worthy weekend productive. Look forward to another?

Done! And written up.

My son came in with a lowly 4 hours -- he didn't choose his 24 hour window wisely (I limited the kids to a 24 hour challenge, since I felt somebody should be remembering to feed the cat.

I agree with Reading Chick: The key is picking the books you would choose over sleep. The Sky Is Everywhere ended up doing that for me, but not The Red Pyramid.
Of course, blogging also helps me stay awake, until I get just too tired.
But what a wonderful way to spend the weekend, guilt-free!
